Craniosacral Therapy, Herbalist, Flexologist

About Becky

Becky first started her journey in the healing arts when she was diagnosed with an “incurable” auto immune disease 12 years ago. After seeing many different doctors and specialists in the greater Boston area, she found herself with no relief, in chronic pain and no solutions. Out of desperation and not believing she had to live her life like this, Becky sought out herbal medicine. To her surprise, the plants started to heal her body and she began to have relief from the pain. A door had opened, and a light bulb went off. Fast forward 12 years later,Becky’s path towards wellness led her to extensive trainings in herbal medicine, plant botany, yoga, bodywork and craniosacral therapy. Her passion is to use all these skills to help people on their own healing journeys, step away from pain, heal from their trauma and reach their wellness goals. Yes, it is possible!

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a form of bodywork primarily using very gentle touch to help release tension that is often stored deep in the body in order to bring the body back to balance, alleviate pain and restore vitality.

Through light touch, deep focus and clarity, a practitioner primarily examines the bones, membranes and movement of fluid in and around the head, spine, sacrum and central nervous system, as well as other bones throughout the body. Like our cardiovascular system, the craniosacral system has a rhythm and pulse that can be felt throughout the body. This is called the Cranial Wave. It is a delicate system that is often disrupted or influenced by other conditions in our body, mind and soul. When we experience trauma or stress, physically, psychologically or emotionally, our bodies often cannot fully process it all at once. Our response can be to store it away some place in our body. Stress and trauma can cause blockages or disruptions in the Cranial Wave. These disruptions often lead to a variety of different symptoms including dysfunction, pain or discomfort, lack of energy and strength and overall wellness. Craniosacral work helps direct the wave back to its natural state, freeing these blockages and alleviating the symptoms that come with it.

What does this look like or feel like during a session?

When coming in for a session, you will be asked to wear loose clothing so the practitioner can better sense the subtle rhythm of your cranial wave. You will lie down on a massage table and the practitioner will examine the body to determine where to start. It may not always be at the head. For example, it may be most beneficial to start at your feet. The session is generally very quiet, as it takes a lot of focus and meditation for the practitioner to sense the subtleties in the cranial wave. As a client, having a clear and quiet mental space can often help facilitate the process. Sometimes if important insights come up for a practitioner they may share those to help in the healing process. The practitioner primarily uses very gentle touch, less than 5 grams of pressure. A session will last about 90 minutes.

Most clients will express craniosacral sessions to feel calming and relaxing. Some people will feel energetic shifts, describing this as feeling “more energized, less drained, feeling lighter, and more centered.” Memories may come up throughout a session, and sometimes with different emotions attached to them. Allowing yourself to feel this and let them come up as needed will help the healing process. Sometimes clients may feel physical sensations occurring as the body finds its way back to balance. They may even experience visions, or have insight to innate wisdom. Afterwards, clients will often feel less tension, a sense of wellbeing, and pain or weight lifted from their bodies.
