About Us

Message from The Blissful Heart’s Founder/Director

The inspiration for the creation of The Blissful Heart began with my own personal epiphany — the recognition of how my mind (thoughts and emotions), body and spiritual self are inseparably interwoven. I gradually began to more thoroughly comprehend the importance of addressing and balancing the needs of all of these aspects of myself in order to become truly healthy in every sense of the word.
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
~World Health Organization, 1948

“Happiness lies first of all in health.”
~George William Curtis
The essential interconnection of mind/body/spirit and its impact on our health and well-being have been recognized and appreciated in many cultures throughout human history, and — at least intuitively — many of us sense that something may be unbalanced or missing in our lives, when we feel unwell and unable to function optimally on a physical, mental and/or emotional level.
“There is an Indian proverb that says that everyone is a house with four rooms — a physical, a mental, an emotional and a spiritual. Most of us tend to live in one room most of the time but, unless we go into every room every day, even if only to keep it aired, we are not a complete person.
~Rumer Godden, A House with Four Rooms
While it was satisfying and fascinating to work on developing my own healthy, whole, balanced self, it also felt like this was only the first step in a new, rewarding direction in life. I began to visualize a place — a wellness center — where people can access the information, inspiration, direction and support that they need to find their balance, to fill and heal and strengthen their minds, bodies and spirits. Almost immediately, the pieces began to fit together, logistics fell into place and — most importantly — like-minded people enthusiastically responded to and supported the concept. And so The Blissful Heart was born.

“The work of your heart, the work of taking time to listen, to help, is also your gift to the whole of the world.”
~Jack Kornfield
As this is written, shortly before we plan to begin offering a few classes in late 2016, The Blissful Heart is still a brand-new work-in-progress, with classes, workshops and public events still being arranged, and wellness care providers being brought into the fold as their schedules permit.

We anticipate that The Blissful Heart will continue to grow, evolve and progress for many years to come, just as each of us hopes to do. Please take a moment to bookmark our calendar page, so you can easily keep up with what’s happening at The Blissful Heart.

Welcome to The Blissful Heart!

“The rhythm of the body, the melody of the mind and the harmony of the soul create the symphony of life.” ~B.K.S. Iyengar
Until recently, modern Western culture tended to see and address each facet of the individual as separate and unconnected. Physical ailments were treated exclusively with physical measures, with little recognition of how a person’s mind affects the body (and is affected by the body as well), and the spiritual aspect of the individual was barely considered at all.

In the past few decades, however, scientists have begun to discover measurable, biological evidence that mind/body/spirit are truly interconnected and have a direct impact on one another.

A National Institutes of Health authority recently stated, “Today, we accept that there is a powerful mind-body connection through which emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and behavioral factors can directly affect our health.”
